Erica Chadwick, Clinical Psychologist

Kia ora,

I’m a clinical psychologist with a PhD in positive developmental psychology, originally from the western mountains of the US. I moved to Wellington in 2003 and completed my doctorate at Victoria University in 2012, while working across research, lecturing, and Māori and Pasifika equity roles—all alongside starting a family. In 2017, we relocated to Rotorua, my husband’s hometown, where we are raising our three sons..

I founded mindbranch in 2015, now a trauma-informed collective that provides ACC-funded services across Rotorua and surrounding regions. My clinical background includes work at CAMHS, Child Development Service, Forensic ID, Acute Inpatient, Corrections, and Adult MH, giving me a wide view of how trauma affects people across life stages and contexts.

In private practice, I work with people recovering from single-event, and chronic and complex trauma using EMDR, Schema Therapy, Deep Brain Reorienting, and related approaches. My focus is on what is most relevant and effective for each person, trusting the mind’s natural capacity to move toward healing when the conditions are right. Nearby in session, one of my Border Collies may often join to offer quiet companionship and a steady presence.

Alongside clinical work, I co-facilitate the Body Awareness Yoga (BAY) group here in Rotorua and am a Senior Teaching Fellow in the Postgraduate EMDR programme at the University of Otago, Wellington.

Outside of work, I might be reading a good book—or, on more energetic days, exploring the forest with my family, furry members of course included.
